In summer 2019 CICA, Center for International and Contemporary Art, opened its doors to the public in the historical region of Tusheti, Georgia. CICA is considered as the most unique place for international and contemporary art between the Black and Caspian Seas. And beyond.
Carefully selected international and contemporary artists from all around the world are invited to show their international and contemporary work at CICA to an art-loving public, interested in international and contemporary approaches in art. CICA’s main purpose is to promote international and contemporary art. Behind CICA stands a team of contemporary and international artists who work in the fields of music, fine art, ceramics, video art, politics, poetry and graphics.
The first CICA exhibition took place in Tusheti, in a building which was initially intended to serve as a cable car station during the Soviet times. However, it was never completed. The abandoned basic construction with its monumental appearance showed perfect conditions to be transformed into an art space for international and contemporary art.
CICA is the new mouthpiece of Georgia and its relation to international and contemporary art. CICA initially sees itself as a location-independent institution for international and contemporary art. Surrounded by spectacular mountain ranges of the Northern Caucasus, the premiere CICA exhibition ran under the name: “Now is the right moment to say wow!”
