As part of the cultural program of the European Alpbach Forum, in collaboration with the Vienna Design Week, journalist Viktoria Kirner and designer Florian Puschmann, I contributed to a fictional political campaign set in a distant future. Aside from the party’s vision and concept, the challenge was to develop a design that could still be relevant in the future. Predicting trends accurately is not only nearly impossible but also is just not fun. For this reason, we delegated much of the work to artificial intelligence. The design was largely generated through prompts rather than traditional design processes. What the machine produced ultimately became our design.
It was fascinating to engage with this topic and question whether, and to what extent, AI might one day take over design jobs. Overall, I am quite pleased with the outcome. As you can see, gold has essentially become the party’s signature color – the only which was left. However, there are clear limitations in the process, proving that AI cannot yet create truly visionary designs on its own. Us humans still had to give it a little push. (Whew! That was lucky!) The project was presented live at the Alpbach Forum at the end of August and was documented at the Vienna Design Week in September 2024.
